"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

A review by Maddie S.

I would recommend reading The Hunger Games sometime in your life because it is a suspenseful romance novel about how one war in the United States can bring down almost the whole population. I love this book because it tells a great story about a girl named Katniss who hates her government. Katniss was an average girl at first but when her sister Prim was chosen to be in the battle of life or death (the Hunger Games), Katniss has no decision but to take Prim’s spot in the games. Gale is Katniss’s friend from the woods. They both go into the woods to hunt together has a hobby. But when Katniss has to leave for the games Katniss and Gale are getting farther apart--especially with the boy with the bread, Peeta, to think about...

"13 Gifts" by Wendy Mass

A review by Skyler S.

Thirteen Gifts is a great book.  It is connected to two other books by Wendy Mass, Finally and Eleven Birthdays, and it brings all of the main characters together into another strange adventure with Angelina D’Angelo.  Tara, the main character, got in trouble at her school, so she had to stay with her family for the summer in Willow Falls.  Tara is hoping for a boring summer with no friends, because she is not a social person, but when her money, phone, and iPod gets stolen on the train ride there, she knows she needs friends to help her.  Tara gets swept up in the crazy antics of Angelina, and knows she will never forget this summer.
